This is a seven-day, six-night pilgrimage that covers 75 miles between Sasabe, Mexico and Kennedy Park in Tucson. Green Valley-Sahuarita Samaritans traditionally provide the mid-day main meal on the Thursday, which will be June 2nd this year. Volunteers were recruited to provide food and/or to transport food out to Caballo Loco Ranch, south of Three Points. There will be 65 walkers this year.
On May 30, there will be a press conference to kick off the Migrant Trail at 10:00am at Southside Presbyterian (317 W. 23rd Street) in Tucson, Arizona. About 10:45 the walkers will be leaving to carpool to Sasabe. On June 5, the walkers will be arriving to Kennedy Park in Tucson at approximately 11:15am to Ramada #3, located behind the Mission Library at the northwest corner of Ajo Way and Mission Road. Upon arrival, they will have a short press conference, followed by music, food and celebration. All are welcome to attend these two events.
The Migrant Trail website offers event details as well as the history of the walk. Here is a news column about the 2015 walk by Laurie Jurs; it was published in the Green Valley News in July 2015. Here is a link to a news release by Migrant Trail Walk released May 26, 2016.
