In 1990, Maryknoll Priest, Fr. Roy Bourgeois, founded the School of the Americas Watch after the assassinations of six Jesuit priests, their housekeeper and her daughter in El Salvador. The soldiers that killed them and thousands of others throughout Latin America were trained at the US military training school the School of the Americas (SOA) at Ft. Benning, GA.
After 26 years the annual vigil at the gates of Ft. Benning are moving to Nogales, Arizona/Sonora to push back against militarization of the border, criminalization of migrants, and name the root causes of migration. Come learn more about SOA Watch. Sunday, September 11th from 9:30am to 11am at Southside Presbyterian Church, 317 W. 23rd, Tucson. Roy will be speaking during their Sunday service.
