A Deadly Month: We were reminded that June was a deadly month for migrants in the desert. Data from the Pima County Forensic Science Center reported 25 RHR (recovered human remains) during June, the second highest number for June in the last eight years. And those numbers represent only those who were found. All the evidence shows that migrant movement is still steady.
Help for Asylum Seekers: Bob Kee, Tucson Samaritan, visited the Green Valley-Sahuarita Samaritans on July 4 to tell about the program now organizing with the help of KBI, the Kino Border Initiative: to visit and support asylum seekers held in Eloy and Florence detention centers. The migrants need encouragement and support while awaiting their hearings––which can take many months and lead to a feeling of abandonment. Volunteer visitors mean a lot to them, and it’s also a way to develop relationships that can continue beyond the prison visits.
