Magistrate: D. Thomas Ferraro
Federal Prosecutor Lewis
Samaritans: Monte & Linda Rogers
Ferraro processed larger groups of migrants (8-10) so the court was finished in 40 minutes, but he seemed concerned & was fair.
There were "only" 42 migrants, including 3 women. 36 were from Mexico, 4 from Honduras & 2 from Guatemala. The majority were apprehended near Nogales, with 11 near Sasabe & 10 near Douglas.
Sentences were between 30 & 180 days for a total of 3330 days incarceration, costing us $536,130.
Three migrants asked to be housed together, which was granted.
One person stated important papers were not returned to him after his last incarceration & requested his property be returned at his release. Ferraro stated personal belongings are held for 30 days after release.
The Honduran women stated credible fear of returning there, but because she had already pled guilty, asylum may not be possible & we couldn't hear when her attorney discussed this with Ferraro.
This will be our last Streamline visit as we are returning to Michigan on 5/26 so everyone have a great & meaningful summer & fall.
